Team spirit has always been strong at SEGRO, both inside and outside work. The Company has a popular Sports & Social Club in the UK and a growing sense of unity across our UK and European offices.
Making a difference to the communities in which they work is important to all SEGRO people. Every two years, following internal consultation, a charity of the year is nominated and everyone gets involved in organising fundraising events.
A target amount is set and, at the end of the year, SEGRO matches the funds raised. In 2006 the charity was Barnardo's. The fundraising target was exceeded twice and SEGRO people raised £60,000, which was matched by the Company to make a donation of £120,000.
SEGRO people are also encouraged to get involved in their own charity and community work, with the provision of one day each year to support a charity of their choice through project work or fundraising activity.
Here is a small selection of recent activities:
Yacht Racing Challenge 2006
In Portsmouth on 27 September, over 200 people representing 27 companies took control of a flotilla of yachts, in the process raising an estimated £13,000 for Barnardo's.

Charity Golf Day
Held at The Buckinghamshire Golf Club on 7 June. Altogether, 20 teams participated, including SEGRO people, the Company’s bankers, property advisors and engineers, raising an estimated £25,000.

Working for a better environment
SEGRO people gave up their time to clear and landscape the communal gardens at Common Ground, a residential centre based in Langley, Berkshire for people with special and assisted-living needs.

Keeping in touch with our heritage
SEGRO people keep in touch with each other, even after they have left the Company. Each year, SEGRO organises an outing for its UK pensioners, which sees senior managers joining them on an afternoon cruise on the Thames.
