Slough Estates is pleased to announce that Michael Waring is to be appointed to the new position of Director of Corporate Communications, reporting to Ian Coull, Chief Executive. Michael is currently Director of Communications at United Business Media plc, the market leading, global B2B information services company. Michael previously worked at BAA plc for twelve years.

Michael has been Director of Communications at United Business Media ("UBM") since 2001, having joined as Head of Investor Relations in 2000. UBM is today a highly focused, global B2B media company with major operations in the US and UK and a significant presence in both Europe and Asia. Michael managed the communication of UBM's transition from a diversified and UK consumer orientated business in 1999 - including the £1.75bn disposal of its ITV licences to Granada in 2000. More recently UBM has grown the business externally through a steady pipeline of c£200m of acquisitions per annum. In 2005 United Business Media won one and was shortlisted for three other major Investor Relations industry awards.
Prior to joining UBM, Michael worked at BAA plc, the world's leading international airports group and one of the UK's largest property companies – including the operations of its property development arm, BAA Lynton. At BAA Michael held senior strategy, regulatory and business development positions. These included managing a capital programme of £0.5 billion per annum (including the Heathrow Express Rail link and early phases of Terminal 5 at Heathrow) and developing BAA's international business - with acquisitions of airport and retail interests in Australia, Europe and the US. In 1996, Michael took on the direction of BAA's investor relations activities.
Prior to joining BAA, Michael trained as an accountant with KPMG Peat Marwick. He graduated with a law degree (LL.B.) from the London School of Economics in 1986 and completed the London Business School Corporate Finance Programme in 1993. He is a member of the Policy Committee of the Investor Relations Society and on the Board of Quicksilver, a Hackney based theatre group with seeks to make life changing theatre for children.
