Procurement and Supply Chain
Objective: To engage with suppliers to ensure sustainability is embedded in the supply chain as much as is practical
Stakeholders are becoming increasingly aware of the potentially serious social and environmental impacts in corporate supply chains. As a result SEGRO is committed to ensuring that these impacts are effectively managed in its own supply chain.
SEGRO continuously seeks to ensure that first tier prioritised suppliers are meeting its social and environmental expectations. This becomes more challenging as the level of control or influence diminishes further down the supply chain.
Highlights of SEGRO’s approach
- SEGRO is working to consolidate its internal supplier management system in order to map and prioritise the different supplier types according to risk and impact area
- SEGRO is developing a responsible procurement policy and in 2007 a key target is to develop a phased corporate responsibility engagement action plan with prioritised suppliers
- SEGRO is a member of the CSR and Construction Procurement Group, a voluntary working group, established by property sector peers to discuss and exchange best practice in responsible supply chain management in the sector. As a member, SEGRO has adopted the group’s voluntary CSR and Procurement Guidelines which recommend best practice standards and procedures for companies in their supplier relations
- The company regularly holds workshops with its top contractors during which corporate responsibility issues are discussed
- SEGRO is committed to only using timber from sustainably-managed forests, and also specifies that its contractors increasingly use recycled and recyclable materials where possible.
